Someone once asked me what I wanted the inscription on my headstone to read. I imagine that is one way to define one's self. My answer was, "He always tried to be fair." I imagine that if one can figure out what's most important to them, and make sure that it's a positive feature, one has gone a long way to establishing a core value for themself.
