WELCOME

I began sending inspirational messages drawn from my own experiences to my son's mobile phone during his basic military training. (In Singapore, all boys are conscripted at age 18 for 2 years of military service.) He told me it helped him through the tough training and in making decisions.

I continued this during his officer training and also during his stint with his infantry battalion. My son still keeps the messages in his mobile. I also sent these messages to my daughter who found them equally useful.

When my son and daughter left for university in the US, I moved the daily inspirational messages to this blog. My daughter is now in Finland on a Masters programme.

Young adults grow a great deal when they go out and explore the world beyond their home and comfort zone. But it comes at a price - one of the trade-offs is missing our daily conversations. Fortunately, technology like Skype and blogging help bridge the gap, though they are poor substitutes for a heart-to-heart, face-to-face.

I am like a coach and cheerleader calling from the sidelines. Ultimately, my children have to live their own lives, make their own choices, climb their own mountains, celebrate their own victories, heal their own hurts, create their own value and leave their own mark. I wish them success and happiness.

This blog is designed to be a source of inspiration for my son and daughter, whenever they need a charge of inspiration.
